The detail
The Velocity 2 is built for the last 10km of a marathon, which is a narrower brief than most running shoes admit to. The midsole is a supercritical nitrogen-foamed PEBA at 39mm under the heel, and the plate is a full-length carbon weave shaped to hold the forefoot stiff through toe-off. Together they return more energy than the foam alone, and they also make the shoe less forgiving at slower paces. If most of your week is easy running, buy the Tempo instead and keep these for the sessions that matter.
