The detail
Children wear shoes out at the toe and the heel collar, so both are reinforced here rather than left to the upper material. The closure is a single hook-and-loop strap over an elastic lace, which means a five-year-old can put them on alone, and the whole shoe is machine washable at 30 degrees because it will need to be. Sizes are graded in half steps because a child's foot does not wait for whole ones.
